Codruta is a very special child. She is fourteen and suffers from cerebral palsy, which manifests in her as very poor coordination and trouble speaking. She was abandoned by her mother at age four. Her mother took her to the hospital for treatment and never returned for her. She was thus taken to a state-run orphanage where she has resided for the last eight years of her life.
Even with her handicaps, Codruta is a remarkable young lady. Her charismatic personality and beautiful, contagious smile light up the room every time we come to visit her. She is affectionate with the younger children at the orphanage and jumps in to help the staff whenever there is need. She is very well-behaved/mannered, always showing respect for authority and doing what she is told without complaint. Though her studies are difficult for her, she is very diligent at them, and is encouraged by the recognition and approval she gets from her teachers.
Codruta’s favorite activities include listening to music, playing games on the tablet we bought for her, and spending time with friends (especially with her roommate, Donna, who is also her best friend). She enjoys spending a lot of time outdoors wandering around the orphanage courtyard. Lastly, she loves getting and giving hugs. She speaks of wanting to become a massage therapist one day. But above all, she dreams of having a loving family and someone to call mother and father!
Codruta does not stay with us but we are nevertheless trying to find her a caring and reliable sponsor to help her.
