Larissa is ten. She grew up moving between state-run orphanages and foster care homes. Her mother, a drug addict and prostitute, abandoned her and her brother, Paul, five years ago. At first, Larissa and her brother were placed in foster care families (three different families), but each time were rejected by those families and sent back to the state-run orphanage. Larissa started to lose hope that she would ever find a family to love her.
Recently, she and her brother have been visiting with us and she has proven to be a sweet and very helpful girl. She constantly asks for chores and looks for ways to help around the house, as she likely feels a need to prove her worth to us so that we won’t abandon her like her previous caretakers. Larissa is becoming the older sister to many of the children we hope to fully adopt and an indispensable part of our family here.
Now, Larissa and Paul have become part of our family at Finding Hope Children’s Home. Larissa has proven to be a sweet and very helpful girl. She constantly looks for ways to help around the house, as she likely feels if she proves her worth we will not reject her as previous families have. We have let her know we love her unconditionally, but her fear of rejection will take time to overcome.
